Behind a career-high 23 points from Junior guard Luke Martinez, the Wyoming Cowboys pummeled the Idaho State Bengals 73-49 Monday night at the Arena-Auditorium. The win gives UW their best start since the 1950-51 campaign(15-2) and the program's most wins ever before the start of the conference season.

Two players besides Martinez also scored in double figures tonight with Leonard Washington and Adam Waddell putting up 12 each. Washington also grabbed a game high 9 rebounds and 3 steals. In fact, Martinez and Washington were perfect from the field. Martinez was 6-6 from the field, including 5-5 from 3-point range, but was only 6-8 at the charity stripe. Washington went 5-5 on field goals and was 2-2 at the line.

The Pokes rolled to an early 23-7 lead behind Martinez and Waddell, who scored 10 and 6 points respectively. Once the lead got to double figures, Idaho State never threatened. UW led 42-21 at halftime and by as much as 32 points in the second half.

Twelve of the 14 Cowboys played, including nine with 10 or more minutes.

Wyoming (14-2) shot 56.5 percent from the field (26-46), 54.5 percent from beyond the arc (6-11), and 75.0 percent from the free thrown line (15-20).

Idaho State (3-13, 1-3) was held to 39.1 percent shooting (18-46) from the field, 23.1 percent (3-13) from three point range and 71.4 percent (10-14) from the charity stripe.

UW will begin conference play this Saturday, Jan. 14th against New Mexico at 1:30 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium. The last time the Lobos visited Laramie, the Cowboys stole one at the buzzer, 67-66. Coverage will begin on KCGY-FM (95.1) at 1:00 p.m.
