The snow was flying at Arapahoe Basin ski area in the Rocky Mountains on Friday night.

Representatives from the ski area said it was the earliest they've turned on the snow guns in the last 10 years.

With cold air and temperatures on the way, this was the first step in getting the snow machines ready.

Arapahoe Basin fired up the snow making machines Friday night to get the rust off before they really crank up the snow. In an Instagram post they said "We are just testing the system but it seems to be working."  Arapahoe Basin Ski Area and Loveland Ski Area compete each year to see who can open first.
