A veteran crew that could be four-deep is what the Wyoming Cowboys might be looking at with the cornerback position heading into the 2019 season.

As spring practice winds down, the Pokes defensive backs have caught the eye of head coach Craig Bohl. He told the media at the beginning of Tuesday’s practice that group performed well in last Saturday’s closed scrimmage. Their play included a pick-six made by senior corner Antonio Hull.

Hull is a fifth-year senior trying to continue to perfect his craft, while four-year senior Tyler Hall has moved back to cornerback after spending last season at the nickel spot. Those two vets give UW a pair of players that have seen a lot in their careers. Add to that sophomores C.J. Coldon and Jalani Ellison, and the Cowboys feel good about the position.

Wyoming cornerbacks coach John Richardson visited with KOWB’s David Settle recently about his position group. They talked about what the focus of the spring has been at cornerback, their progress, plus comparing this crew to the one a couple of seasons ago that helped the Pokes lead the country in takeaways. Richardson also spoke about having Hull around again, the return of Hall to the outside, getting Coldon back from injury and the development of Ellison to round out the depth, and how that depth can really help next season in the audio interview above.

UW finishes spring practice with the annual Spring Game this Saturday, April 27, 2 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.
