Another first-time Laramie City Council candidate in Ward 1 is Jessica Stalder, who is challenging the current mayor for a four-year term.

Running on a platform that emphasizes “Transparency, Advocacy, and Integrity,” Stalder was a guest Monday during the “Laramie Live on KOWB” radio morning show.

Stalder said before she decided to run, she had to make sure she could fully commit to serving in such a role. One area she feels strongly about after being around council meetings is seeing if there’s a way the city council can have a better decision-making process. Her background is as a nurse, so she explained she’s approached this from an advocacy perspective, but also has a background in business, and being from the Gem City, she’d like to see the town ‘do better.’

In the video above, Stalder points out economic development is the No. 1 issue. She has tried to get more involved with meetings and understanding all that goes into the decisions that are made. Stalder also pointed to protecting water and protecting people. She also talked about specific issues to Ward 1 residents with public transportation and paving of the streets.

The 2018 general election is Nov. 6. Polls will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Absentee voting is already underway.
