Cheyenne Man Dies In Accident Near Wheatland

A 26 year old Cheyenne man was killed in a single vehicle crash Tuesday evening on I-25 about 13 miles south of Wheatland in Platte County.

Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Stephen Townsend says the driver or the vehicle, identified as a 16 year old juvenile was pulling a boat trailer loaded with a boat traveling northbound on Interstate 25, when for reasons unknown the boat trailer began to fishtail and caused the driver to lose control of the combination.

Townsend says the combination went to the right onto the shoulder at which time the driver over corrected the steering to the left and then to the right, which caused the combination to rotate in a clockwise direction going into a broadside slide whereupon the pickup rolled 1 1/2 times.The combination came to rest blocking both northbound lanes of travel.

Townsend says neither occupant was wearing a seat belt as required. During the rollover the passenger was totally ejected from the cab of the pickup. Townsend says 26 year old Colt Lemmons died at the scene.The juvenile was transported to Platte County Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

This crash remains under investigation and when the investigation has been completed all information will be turned over to the Platte County Attorney for their review.They will make the final determination as to the filing of any criminal charges in this fatal crash.
