Cheyenne, Laramie County Firefighters Remember 9/11

Cheyenne - area firefighters remembered their comrades and all who died in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, on Wednesday, the 18th anniversary of that fateful and tragic event.

Nine local firefighters joined in a 110 story stair climb in Denver, one of several such events held around the country.

Meanwhile, Laramie County Fire District#1 firefighters remembered the firefighters, other first responders and all of the roughly 3,000 victims of the attacks on Wednesday morning with a ceremony and display at the South Greeley Safeway parking lot on Wednesday morning.

According to LCFD#1 Chief Darrick Mittlestadt, the event began with the extension of a fire truck ladder and display of the American flag at 6:46 a.m. which was when the first plane hit the World Trade Center. Firefighters held a ceremony recalling the first responders and other victims of the attack.

The local firefighters recalled where they were and what they were doing when they heard of the attack. Middlestadt said the ladder and flag remained extended until 8:28 a.m., the time at which the second tower toppled on Sept. 11, 2001.
