Cheyenne and Laramie On Opposite Ends Of Wyoming Safe Cities Study

It's a tale of two cities in southeastern Wyoming; one ranks among the safest in the state, the other among the most dangerous. Laramie took third place in a new list of Wyoming's Safest Cities, while Cheyenne finished 14th out of 16 towns in the study.

Safewise compared the 16 largest cities in Wyoming based on rates of violent crime and theft. Lander was ranked the safest place in the state, with no violent crimes reported for the second consecutive year. Sheridan finished second, followed by Laramie, Cody, and Gillette.

Rock Springs ranked last in the study with a rate of 4.65 violent crimes per 1,000 residents and 19.93 property-related crimes per 1,000. Powell, Cheyenne, Riverton, and Rawlins rounded out the five worst towns for safety.

Cheyenne's violent crime rate of 3.23 per 1,000 residents more than tripled Laramie's rate of .92 violent crimes per 1,000. The 34.99 property-related crimes per 1,000 in the Capital City more than doubled Laramie's rate of 13.76 per 1,000.

Cheyenne ranked second in the state for the most property-related crimes, trailing only Riverton which recorded a rate of 48.60 per 1,000.
