Casper Teen Sentenced to Probation for Bank Robbery

A Casper teen will avoid prison time after admitting to robbing a downtown Casper bank last year.

18-year-old Dillon Martin apologized to his family, his friends and River Rail Community Federal Credit Union employees before receiving his 10-year probation term on Friday in Natrona County District Court.

The probation time was coupled with a nine-to-17-year suspended prison sentence with credit for 136 days served and an order to pay $14,312 restitution. Martin will also not be allowed to contact the bank or bank employees directly, though he will be allowed to write a letter of apology.

According to court documents, a then-juvenile Martin robbed the credit union at knifepoint last August then fled the scene on foot. He was arrested weeks later after detectives say he went on a shopping spree where he purchased expensive new clothing and a car.

Detectives say Martin spent $10,000 cash for the car.

In January, Martin entered a guilty plea to a count of armed robbery.
