Chaundra Sewell scored 34 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Cowgirls to an 84-68 win over Loyola Marymount on Saturday in Laramie.

"It just kind of seemed like everything was falling for me, personally," said Sewell about setting new career highs in scoring and rebounding. "I took a lot of off balance shots in the post and they seemed to be falling in. As for rebounding, I just decided I wanted the ball and I was gonna fight whoever had it at the time."

Wyoming had a 40-29 lead at halftime, largely due to Sewell, who went into the locker room just one rebound short of a double-double. As the second half unfolded, Sewell continued her tough play, even making all 12 free throws she took.

"It's a team effort to win, but we always need somebody that seems to be able to step up and separate themselves to carry the load." said Wyoming Head Coach Joe Legerski. "I think Chaundra Sewell refused to lose today."

LMU had whittle the Cowgirl lead down to 60-57 with 7:16 left in the game before Sewell sparked an 8-0 run with an offensive board turned into an old-fashioned 3-point play. The run was capped off by a 3-pointer from Kayla Woodward, who finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists.

Ashley Sickles also scored in double figures with 14 points. The Cowgirls shot 47.4 percent (27/57) from the field, 31.3 percent (5/16) from beyond the arc and 89.3 percent (25/28) from the free throw line. With LMU pressing UW through the entire game, the Cowgirls committed 21 turnovers, but they made up for it on the boards by grabbing 49 rebounds to 32 by LMU.

The aggressive Loyola Marymount (6-7) team had two starter foul out in Alex Cowling and Sophie Taylor. LMU was led by Hazel Ramirez with 14 points and 4 rebounds. The Lions shot 32.4 percent (23/71) from the field, 43.8 percent (7/16) from 3-point range and 78.9 percent (15/19) from the charity stripe.

The Cowgirls (10-2) have one more game before they start Mountain West play. UW will host South Dakota Mines on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. Coverage will start at 6:30 p.m. on KOWB.
