Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms Efforts Leads to Wyoming Convictions
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated six of seven cases that resulted in recent sentencings in federal court in Wyoming, according to a news release from the Wyoming U.S. Attorney's Office.
The BATFE investigated the case of Misael Diaz, 31, of Omaha, Neb., who was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Diaz was arrested in Gillette. He received five years, 10 months of imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
BATFE, with the help of the Cheyenne Police Department, investigated the case of Damien Anthony Jerome, also known as "Dey-Dey," 31, of Cheyenne who was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Freudenthal for distribution of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Freudenthal sentenced Jerome to 17 years, eight months of imprisonment, to be followed by five years of probation. She also ordered him to pay $1,000 in restitution and a $200 special assessment.
The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation and the BATFE investigated the case of John James Gravelis, 35, of Casper for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and use of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
Freudenthal sentenced Gravelis to 10 years of imprisonment, to be followed by five years of probation. He ordered him to pay a $200 special assessment.
The BATFE investigated the case of Christopher Eugene Shaw, 32, of Cheyenne by Freudenthal for conspiracy to distribute a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Freudenthal sentenced Shaw to 12 years, three years of imprisonment, to be followed by four years of probation. She also ordered him to pay $800 in restitution and a $200 special assessment.
The BATFE investigated the case of the Raymond Marshal Fruits, 41, of Lincoln City, Ore., who was sentenced by Freudenthal on three counts for sale or transfer of a firearm to a prohibited person. Fruits was arrested in Portland, Ore.
Freudenthal sentenced him to three years, one month of imprisonment, to be followed by three years of probation. She also ordered Fruits to pay a $300 special assessment.
The final case the BATFE investigated was that of David Allen Labriola, 33, who was sentenced for possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and theft of firearms from a federal firearms licensee. Labriola was arrested in Cheyenne.
Freudenthal sentenced him to eight years, five months of imprisonment, to be followed by five years of probation. She also ordered Labriola to pay a $300 special assessment.
The DCI's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigated the case of Jeffrey Dennis Hunsaker, Jr., 20, who was sentenced by Freudenthal for possession of child pornography. Hunsaker is from Nashville, Tenn., but formerly lived in Douglas. He was arrested in Casper.
Freudenthal sentenced him to four years of imprisonment, to be followed by 10 years of probation. She also ordered him to pay $9,000 in restitution and a $100 special assessment.
