Bryce Meredith and Cowboy Wrestling Head to Cheyenne [VIDEOS]
Tuesday will be a homecoming for Wyoming senior wrestler Bryce Meredith, as the Cowboys take on No. 3 Oklahoma State at Storey Gym in Cheyenne.
Wyoming (1-1) is doing another out-reach event. This time it’s in the Capital City at 7 p.m.
Meredith is a Cheyenne Central graduate. He recalled being at Storey Gym as a kid for various events and more. However, he’s never had a chance to wrestle there.
You can tell this means a great deal to the senior to be going back to his hometown. The fourth-ranked Meredith has a tough match ahead because he’ll be facing No. 1 Dean Heil. This is a rematch of the 2016 NCAA Championship won by Heil in a 3-2 decision.
Wyoming is coming off a runner-up performance at the Reno Tournament of Champions Sunday in Nevada.
Meredith (141), junior Branson Ashworth (165) and redshirt freshman Montorie Bridges (133) all won titles, while seniors Archie Colgan (157) and Chaz Polson (184) both took third place.
Meredith beat the No. 5 and No. 2 ranked wrestlers with 3-2 and 4-2 victories in the semis and finals for his title. Ashworth won two matches by fall, had a tech fall in the quarterfinals and then an 8-1 and 6-1 decision for his championship. Bridges also had a pair of falls, plus three decisions, which were all by six points or more, and included 10-4 in the finals.
The Cowboys finished with 140 points and placed second behind No. 6 North Carolina State with 192 points.
