Boise State Pushes Past the Cowboys, 24-14
Behind three touchdowns accounted for by quarterback Montell Cozart, Boise State rallied past the Wyoming Cowboys 24-14 Saturday night.
Wyoming (4-3, 2-1) had a lead at halftime, but got out-scored 21-7 in the second half.
Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl said in a release from the University of Wyoming,
“Coming into the game some of the things we talked about was causing takeaways and taking care of the football. Credit Boise State, as they took care of the football and played well on special teams. We competed very well today. This locker room is upset that we didn't earn a win tonight.”
Boise State (5-2, 3-0) scored on the opening drive of the second half. Cozart capped an 18-play drive with a four-yard TD run. It took nearly 10 minutes off the clock and put the Broncos up 10-7.
The Cowboys answered with their own drive, as Josh Allen found Austin Fort on a 20-yard touchdown pass. UW regained a 14-10 edge.
Cozart and Boise State came right back with a 10-play drive. Cozart with another four-yard touchdown run for a 17-14 lead. After a quick three-and-out by the Pokes, the Broncos struck again. This time Cozart found Cedrick Wilson on a 24-yard TD pass for a 24-14 advantage.
Wyoming was limited to 242 yards on offense. Allen went 12-of-27 for 131 yards with one TD and two interceptions. He also ran for 62 yards and a touchdown. That capped the game’s opening drive and gave the Cowboys a 7-0 lead. Andrew Wingard led the UW defense with 15 tackles, including 0.5 tackles for loss. Marcus Epps had 13 tackles, while Carl Granderson added 12 tackles, including two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss. This was the first game the defense did not record a takeaway.
Boise State finished with 342 total yards of offense. Cozart had 52 rush yards and 73 through the air on 6-7 passing. Alexander Mattison added 91 yards on the ground. The Broncos’ defense pressure Wyoming’s Allen all game and came up with four sacks and the two picks.
The Cowboys return home to face the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday, Oct. 28 for their Homecoming game. Kick-off is at 5:30 p.m.
