SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska authorities say they found the body of a missing 8-year-old girl in a remote area several miles from her home and they have arrested her stepfather.

The Nebraska State Patrol said in a statement Friday that investigators found Kerra Wilson's body in a rugged area north of her home in Mitchell after receiving a tip from a rancher who found something suspicious.

Kerra's stepfather, 32-year-old Salvador Carlos Lopez, has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Investigators say Lopez told them he dropped Kerra at school on Wednesday, several hours before she was reported missing. But authorities say they don't believe he ever dropped her off at the school.
