Board Rejects Land Exchange

The Wyoming Board of Land Commissioners voted unanimously to reject a proposed land exchange Thursday, that would have swapped about 1,041 acres of public lands in Albany County for 295 acres of private land in Crook County.

The Bonander Ranchers, LLC land exchange received sharp criticism from Albany County residents and wildlife organizations, who were concerned that it would hinder wildlife management and eradicate outdoor recreation opportunities.

The state lands board is comprised of five Wyoming officials: Gov. Matt Mead, Secretary of State Ed Murray, Treasurer Mark Gordon, Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow, and Auditor Cynthia Cloud. The board allowed for public comment before voting Thursday morning.
