Wyoming men’s basketball has received its first commitment for the 2021 recruiting class from Ben Bowen of Highlands Ranch, CO.

Bowen is a 6-5 wing for Mountain Vista High School. He announced his decision on Twitter Monday.

Bowen is the son of former NBA player Ryan Bowen, who is an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets.

As a junior, Ben Bowen averaged 16.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game and was a first-team All-Continental League selection. He held offers from Denver and Central Michigan. You can view some of Bowen’s junior season highlights here.

New coach Jeff Linder built the 47th-ranked recruiting class in Division I earlier this year in less than a month. Now he’s working on the future.

Wyoming is allowed a total of 14 scholarship players. They currently have 13 slots filled on their roster with two walk-ons.

Wyoming Football News

Cowboy offensive lineman Patrick Arnold announced his decision on Twitter last Saturday that he was giving up football to focus on school.

Arnold has already graduated in three years and plans to pursue a master’s degree in physiology. He would have been a redshirt junior this fall for Wyoming football. Arnold played both guard positions and center with the Pokes. He started 10 games and played in 16 during his UW career.

The Cowboys have junior Keegan Cryder returning at the center position. Also back are Zach Watts, Logan Harris, Eric Abojei, Gavin Rush, Blaine Baker, and Latrell Bible, who have experience playing guard in the interior of Wyoming’s offensive line.

Kiick Passes Away

Former Wyoming running back and a member of the UW Athletics Hall of Fame and the only undefeated team in NFL history, the 1972 Miami Dolphins, Jim Kiick passed away in South Florida last weekend. He was 73.

Kiick earned first-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors three times. He led UW to back-to-back WAC titles in 1967 and 1968. Kiick was a member of the 1966 Sun Bowl team that beat Florida State, 28-20. He ran for 135 yards and two TDs in that Sun Bowl game and received MVP honors.

He was enshrined in the UW Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996.
