Bank Robbery Suspect Says He Gave Cash to Poor

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A man accused of stealing almost $141,000 from a bank in Jackson, Wyo., on New Year's Eve says he gave much of his money away — and that his goal was to raise awareness about America's homeless.

Corey Allan Donaldson waived a preliminary hearing in federal court in Cheyenne this week.

In a phone interview earlier this week from jail in Rock Springs, Donaldson told The Associated Press that from New Year's Eve until his arrest Jan. 22 in Utah, he traveled the West giving between $55,000 and $65,000 to charitable organizations and to people in shelters and on the streets.

Two organizations didn't return the newspaper's phone calls seeking to confirm that Donaldson gave them money in Reno, Nev., as he said.
