Albany County Sheriff Warns of Continuing Jury Duty Phone Scam
The Albany County Sheriff's Office posted a statement this past week that the area has continued to experience scam phone calls about missing jury duty.
The scammers are saying they represent the Sheriff's Office, using spoofed phone numbers, and telling people they have missed jury duty. They say a warrant for arrest can be avoided by using money cards to pay a fine over the phone.
According to the office's Facebook, Safeway reported to a Sheriff's office representative of individuals trying to purchase large amounts of money cards.
The office reiterates they will never request any sort of payment over the phone and will never accept money cards as payment of fines.
