The American Film Institute (AFI) announced its official selections for the Top Ten Most Outstanding Motion Pictures and Television Programs of the Year on Sunday. According to AFI.com

AFI AWARDS is the only recognition that honors the community’s creative ensembles as a whole, acknowledging the collaborative nature of the art form.  Honorees are selected based on works which best advance the art of the moving image; enhance the rich cultural heritage of America’s art form; inspire audiences and artists alike; and/or make a mark on American society.

The films and programs are not and will not be ranked 1-10.  As listed on the website, the movies selected were Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, 127 Hours, The Social Network, The Town, Toy Story 3, True Grit, and Winter's Bone.  The television programs selected were The Big C, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Glee, Mad Men, Modern Family, The Pacific, Temple Grandin, 30 Rock and The Walking Dead.  AFI also added special awards, which went to The King's Speech and Waiting for Superman.  To see all of the selections together, watch this video!
