Wyoming and Colorado amateur athletes of every age, ability and passion are invited to grab a taste of glory at the 2011 Rocky Mountain State Games, presented by AT&T, in Colorado Springs. The Colorado Springs Sports Corporation combines the breathtaking beauty of the Pikes Peak region with a chance to take home a medal or two in any of 34 sports at world-class venues like the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

This year's edition of the state's largest multi-sport event will take place on two weekends for the first time, July 22-24 and July 29-31. Competition will take place at venues including the U.S. Olympic Training Center, United States Air Force Academy, Memorial Park, Fort Carson, Colorado College and other venues in Colorado Springs. The Games are recognized by the National Congress of State Games, a member organization of the United States Olympic Committee.

Interested athletes may register to compete and get full details by going to www.coloradospringssports.org or calling (719)634-7333, ext. 1000.

The Rocky Mountain State Games will feature an Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 29 at the Colorado Springs World Arena. The celebration will feature a ceremonial parade of athletes, live entertainment and the lighting of the State Games cauldron by a special guest athlete. Past guests have included: Rulon Gardner (wrestling), Michelle Kwan (figure skating), and Apolo Ohno (speedskating).

Athletes who walk in the Parade of Athletes receive free admission to the Opening Ceremony. Spectators may purchase tickets: $7 adults, $5 youth (18 & under), $5 seniors (55+) though TicketsWest.com or by calling 866-464-2626.
