Arapahoe Wildfire Destroys 30 Homes
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming’s largest wildfire has destroyed 30 homes and dozens of outbuildings.
Albany County assessors told the Associated Press that they’ve completed their survey of the damage caused by the 150-square-mile Arapahoe fire northwest of Wheatland.
They looked at over 300 structures. Eight homes were damaged but not destroyed and that 54 barns and garages were destroyed.
Eleven commercial buildings were also lost, including buildings at camps in the area.
The fire was 80 percent contained Tuesday. It likely won’t be fully contained until snow falls and puts out a 2 to 3 mile stretch in very steep and rough terrain on the west side of Laramie Peak.
The 17-square-mile Squirrel Creek about 30 miles west of Laramie has been fully contained.
