The renovation of the University of Wyoming’s Arena-Auditorium has received a great deal of support from a special group of individuals over the past several weeks. That special group is made up of former Cowboy basketball players who have offered their financial support through generous donations.
April 5, 2013 The only player to have his number retired and hanging in the rafters at the Arena-Auditorium will be part of an ESPN special celebrating the 75th year of the NCAA Tournament. Former Wyoming Cowboy great and College Basketball Hall of Famer Kenny Sailors is part of the network's look back at some the great moments in the tournament's history.
Wyoming senior forward Leonard Washington has been named to the All-District 17 Second Team, as announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The award is voted on by member coaches of the NABC and this year a total of 242 student-athletes from 24 districts were honored. Washington earned the accolade for a second-straight season.
March 25, 2013 It was another nail-biter for the Wyoming Cowboys, but this time the heroics came from the opponent. The Western Michigan Broncos left Laramie with a 75-67 overtime victory over UW in the CBI Quarterfinals Monday night at the Arena-Auditorium. Western Michigan's David Brown buried a right corner 3-pointer with 0.8 seconds left that tied the game at 59 and forced overtime. Then the Broncos out-scored the Pokes 16-8 in the extra session to advance on to the CBI semifinals.
March 19, 2013 Nathan Sobey buried a 3-pointer from the deep left corner off a pass from Josh Adams at the buzzer, and the Wyoming Cowboys topped the Lehigh Mountain Hawks 67-66 in the first round of the CBI Tuesday night at the Arena-Auditorium. The Pokes rallied from a 7-point deficit with five minutes left and closed the game on a 10-2 run for the stunning victory.
The University of Wyoming men's basketball team has earned a second-straight postseason berth for just the 11th time in program history, as the Cowboys accepted an invitation on Sunday to play in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) presented by Buick. UW will face Lehigh on Tuesday at 7 p.m. MT in Wyoming's Arena-Auditorium.
March 13, 2013 A lack of offensive firepower hampered the Wyoming Cowboys, as they lost to the #14 New Mexico Lobos 59-46 in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Basketball Championships in Las Vegas Wednesday night. UW shot only 32 percent from the field and could never mount a serious challenge to the Lobos, who ended the game on a 12-4 run to advance to the MW tournament semifinals Friday night.
