South Second Street is expected to be reopened later today. A block of the street has been closed since Saturday, May 24 when a fire destroyed the building of a local business. The city kept the area closed until it was deemed safe.

A structural engineer was on scene yesterday to determine the structural integrity of the front wall, and the analysis of that inspection is expected to come out later today.

After the inspection, the city has planned to construct a fence around the burned building, and it will hopefully be completed by noon today. Once the fence is built, the street and sidewalk should reopen. Businesses on the block will have access from South Second Street once again.

The fence will take up five or six parking spaces in front of the building. Despite parking being lost, city officials say it is to ensure safety of the public which is of utmost priority.

A fence will also be constructed behind the building to keep it secure.
