The fire that destroyed a building on South Second Street in the early hours Saturday, May 24 is confirmed to have occurred at the Laramie Vision Clinic at 408 South Second Street.

Firefighters responded to a fire around 4:30 am Saturday and fought the blaze for over four hours before gaining control around 9:00 am. Authorities say the building is a complete loss, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze and save the surrounding businesses.

While the building is stabilized, the block will remain closed until the investigation is complete. Businesses on the east side of the block are open including The Library Sports Bar and Grill (use the Custer Street entrance), Dodds Shoe Company (use the Garfield Street entrance) and Sears (use back door entrance in the alley between Second Street and Third Street). Businesses on the West side of the block will not be open.

The Laramie Main Street Alliance has started a relief fund for the businesses affected by the fire and smoke damage. Visit their website to see how you can make a donation.
