Shots Fired at Virginia Tech; Two Confirmed Dead

Two people are dead on the campus of Virginia Tech University.

According to the Virginia Tech University Website, shortly after noon eastern, a Virginia Tech police officer stopped a vehicle for a reported routine traffic stop near McComas Hall, the main gym on campus.

Witnesses confirm details that during the traffic stop, the police officer was shot and killed.

The alleged shooter then fled on foot towards the Cage, a parking lot near Duck Pond Drive.  A second person was found deceased at the parking lot.

The status of the shooter is at this time unknown.  Virginia State Police have taken over the investigation.

Latest reports describe the suspect as a white male with gray sweat pants, gray hat with neon-green brim wearing a maroon hooded sweatshirt and a backpack and on foot.
