Both Laramie High School basketball teams were successful in their 2013 calendar debut Thursday night, as LHS swept a girls-boys doubleheader at the Bill Strannigan East-West Challenge in Riverton. The Laramie Lady Plainsmen beat Evanston 44-28, while the Laramie Plainsmen took care of Evanston 52-41.

The 5th-ranked Laramie Lady Plainsmen (6-2) won their 4th straight game on Thursday night beating the Lady Red Devils 44-28. Madison Legerski led the Lady Plainsmen with 20 points and 5 rebounds, while Katie Kuhn followed with 14 points, which included four 3-pointers. Laramie began the game with a 9-1 run and never gave up the lead the rest of the way. After a 23-10 edge at half, LHS opened the third quarter on a 9-2 run and extended to a 20-point advantage at 32-12. They cruised to their sixth win from there.

Their second game of the tournament is Friday at Riverton, tip-off is set for 5:30pm. Laramie beat the Lady Wolverines at the Flaming Gorge Classic in Green River on December 13, 2012 by a score of 77-49.

The boys completed the sweep of Evanston with a 52-41 victory in the nightcap. Abel Casas led the Plainsmen with 15 points on five 3-pointers. Tyler Loose and Dominick Villarreal followed with 10 points apiece, while Villarreal added 9 rebounds.

Laramie (7-1) won their third straight game behind a strong second quarter. The Plainsmen never trailed, as they held a 14-10 lead at the end of the first. Then the LHS defense put the clamps on the Red Devils in the second quarter, as Laramie out-scored them 15-4 for a 29-14 lead at the break. Despite some ragged play in the second half and only going 8-23 at the free throw line, the Plainsmen held on for the 11-point victory. It was their second win over Evanston this season.

The Laramie boys return to action Friday night with a big showdown at #3 Riverton. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
