Wyoming's unemployment has remained steady around 5.7%-5.9% for the past five months. The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services latest release shows that the states unemployment rate dropped one percent to 5.7% in October.

In October of last year the states unemployment rate was at 6.6% but overall Wyoming's jobless rate is well below the National mark of 9%. Governor Matt Mead has applauded the low unemployment rate and says his hat is off to those who are creating jobs in Wyoming. He also voiced thanks to the energy, tourism and agriculture industries as well as small business owners and employees for their role in keeping Wyoming’s economy strong.

“The message is our unemployment just went down again to 5.7 percent. It’s not a big reduction, but it is a nice trend. We’re headed in the right direction,” Governor Mead said. “Last week when we held the Business Forum here in Cheyenne we chose some Wyoming businesses to share their success stories. The fact is we had a long list we could have chosen from because we have some tremendous small and large businesses that are doing great things to build the economy and build their communities. Certainly that helps with unemployment. My congratulations to all those who are in Wyoming’s private sector for the hard work that they do and for making it a good news story that as we head into Thanksgiving our unemployment has gone down yet again.”

The lowest unemployment rates in Wyoming are Sublette County at 2.8%, Albany County at 3.9% and Campbell County at 4%. When it comes to the highest unemployment rates Teton County ranked highest at 7.8% followed by Lincoln at 6.6% and Fremont at 6.2%.
