As fall camp starts to wind down for the Wyoming Cowboys, the recent big news was the move of running back Trey Woods to defensive end.

Cowboys’ head coach Craig Bohl made that announcement Tuesday after practice. He stated in a release from the University of Wyoming that they wanted to see Woods in that position.

“We think he’s got some really good athleticism. I think that is where he’ll end up staying, but we want to give him a good hard look as we go through the rest of camp.”

Bohl went on to explain the decision also came about due to an increase in the depth at running back with senior Nico Evans, junior Kellen Overstreet, freshman Jevon Bigelow and redshirt freshman Xazavian Valladay carrying the load.

Bohl added on Woods, “I think we are finding some good running backs. We’re pleased about that. We think Trey (Woods) has great promise as a defensive player. He’s more of an outside linebacker, and a lot of times that is what we play with there (at defensive end). Sometimes they will have their hand in the dirt, and sometimes they’ll stand up. I thought he edge rushed well today.”

After Wednesday’s practice, Coach Bohl was asked about their decision of moving players back-and-forth across the ball, with Woods being the latest example. He also talked about Bigelow’s development, Evans’ improvement, defensive personnel, special teams and more.

Wyoming has three practices left in fall camp, which will conclude Saturday. They begin game week preparations next Monday, Aug. 20 for their season debut Aug. 25 at New Mexico State. That game will start at 8 p.m., Mountain Time and be televised on ESPN2.
