In regards to the current economic crisis Wyoming has held its own. Recently though the state has seen an increase in improper unemployment insurance claims. As of 2008 Wyoming's numbers have almost quadrupled!

Last year the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services documented $2.5 million in over payments! That number is up $1 million since 2009. Department of Workforce Services Director Joan Evans attributes the rise in false cases to the poor economy, people failing to notify the state when they have found work, and a general misunderstanding of how the program works.

Since the recent spike in improper claims the department has been making a pointed effort to educate employers and workers about how to avoid over payments. Although there has been an increase in numbers Evans stated that the states unemployment insurance fund is solvent.
