The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team just wrapped up a stellar season and to show for it the Mountain West Conference has honored the team with 5 post season awards. The top award went to Cowgirl redshirt freshman Sara Paul who earned UW soccer's first-ever MW Freshman of the Year award!

Although the season is not quite over, the Cowgirls under the coaching of Danny Sanchez have gone 10-6-4. That ties for the most wins in school history and is the best winning percentage in UW soccer history (63 percent). The outstanding performance of the Cowgirls and top notch coaching lead to Head coach Danny Sanchez earning the Cowgirls' first MW Coach of the Year award since 2003. This is also Sanchez's first MW Coach of the Year selection. Cowgirls Allison Masumiya also earned First Team All-MW honors, while Kayla Davis earned Second Team honors.

At 12pm today the Cowgirls will take on the TCU Horned Frogs  at the MW Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. TCU. It will be tough but the Cowgirls are ready for battle! If the Cowgirls win today they will move on to the semi-final round and face off against #2 San Diego State.

Here are some of the stats, accolades redshirt freshman Sara Paul acquired over the season.

  • Earned Cowgirls first-ever MW Freshman of the Year honor
  • Ended season as UW's leading offensive player.
  • Earned First Team All-MW honors.
  • Finished the season with 18 total points
  • Seven goals
  • 4 assists
  • Three of the seven goals were game-winning goals. (ties her for third-best all-time in a single season for the Cowgirls)

The Senior leadership of Allison Masumiya  and Kayla Davis will also contribute in today's match. As a defensive midfielder Masumiya ended the season with two goals (both from penalty kicks) and three assists. She also lead a steadfast defense that allowed just 0.81 goals per game and recorded five shutouts. The award is Masumiya's first of her career. Masumiya and Paul's First Team All-MW honors were the first for the Cowgirls since 2008 (Amanda Lathrop).

Davis earned Second Team All-MW honors for her performance this season. She returned from a knee injury during the 2010 season and had a very successful senior campaign. She scored four goals, had 5 assists, with a total of 13 points on the season. Three of Davis' four goals were game winners which ties her with Paul and two other Cowgirls for third best all-time in a single season. This is also Davis' first all-conference selection of her career.

Is a Mountain West Championship Title in the near future for our Cowgirls? Let's hope!
