Carmelo Anthony made it clear on Sunday the importance of a contract extension.  One in which he has thus far refused to sign with the Denver Nuggets.  The NBA is wanting major salary cuts in the next deal.  After the Nuggets' close 129-125 loss to the Knicks, Anthony was asked the importance of getting an extension before the collective bargaining agreement expires next summer.  In a later report on Sunday from ESPN.com it was said that Anthony would only accept a long-term extension if it came with a trade to the New York Knicks.  The Nuggets offered Carmelo Anthony a contract worth about $65 million over three years during the summer.  Anthony said he wanted to keep his options open.  Carmelo Anthony will  become a free agent next summer.  With that posing as an issue, Denver would likely attempt to trade him before that time comes, rather than risk losing him for nothing.  Denver was close to a four-team deal in the preseason that would have sent Anthony to New Jersey, but the deal fell short.  Anthony has a say in where he would like to go and says he doesn't believe Denver would try to send him somewhere he didn't want to go.  Many clubs would refuse to give up the necessary pieces to acquire the All-Star without a guarantee he would be part of their future.  Reports dating back to the summer state  that Anthony's preference was to play in New York, where he was born, and lived the first eight years of his life.  New York is also where Carmelo Anthony was married this summer.  His decision is still up in the air, but Denver may be making changes.
