The weekend of  Saturday the 8th brought bad news to The University of Wyoming football team but two other UW athletics teams had outstanding results. The Cowgirl Volleyball Team pulled off an incredible upset against nationally ranked #23 Colorado State University. The other team who came out on top last weekend with stellar performances by each player was the University of Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis Team.

The Cowgirls traveled to Santa Barbara California to compete in the UCSB Gaucho Classic. The weekend tournament saw five teams in competition. The Cowgirls set their sights high for the weekend and their hard work and determination paid off! They showed that they have more than what it takes to compete with some of the nations best teams as the team took home four titles!

In doubles play the Cowgirls had three teams compete on the final day of action. The doubles A bracket title match was won by the Cowgirls team of Simona Synkova and Veronica Popovici. The two defeated UC Santa Barbara's doubles team of Lozano and Dockendorf 8-4.

In doubles B bracket competition UW's Sasa Nemcova and Christa Gecheva defeated Norther Arizona's doubles team of Wahinepio and Vang 8-4. The only doubles team that didn't quite get the result they wanted was the doubles team of Jessica Parizher and Alma Espinosa as they lost their final match of the weekend 8-5.

When it came to singles action the UW dominated play as four out of five Cowgirls won their respective matches. Veronica Popovici, Sasa Nemcova, Simona Synkova and Jessica Parizher all defeated their opponents.

The Cowgirl's  came home as victors and have already made their way to Las Vegas, NV for yet another tournament. This weekend they will be competing in the Mountain Regional Tournament. Match play will begin today, October 12th and conclude on the 16th.

According to UW Tennis Head Coach Kati Gyulai, "We had a good tournament last weekend in Santa Barbara and we want to build on that. The winner of the Regional tournament qualifies for the ITA National Indoor hosted at the Billy Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City, our goal is to qualify!"

Although the weather is cooling down the Cowgirls are heating things up on the courts and making abold statement that they are not going to let up. Unfortunately the Cowgirls have a very busy road schedule and won't be back in Laramie for competition until February 19th when they will take on Idaho.
