Sophomore Quarterback Brett Smith and Junior Cornerback Marqueston Huff were tabbed Mountain West Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week in the Mountain West, as announced by the conference office Monday. Smith threw for a career-high 412 yards and completed three touchdown passes, while Huff registered seven tackles and forced a key fumble in Wyoming's 28-23 win at UNLV last Saturday. It was the Cowboys third straight victory.

Smith's 412 passing yards rank as the ninth-best single-game performance in school history, and make him only the seventh player in UW history to pass for over 400 yards in a single game. He staked the Cowboys to a 28-17 halftime

lead with TD passes of five, 33 and four yards. He connected with eight different receivers on the day, completing a career-high 75.8 percent of his passes (25-of-33) without an interception. Smith has now attempted 139 passes without throwing an interception, moving him into fifth place on the Mountain West charts for most passes completed without a pick.

Huff’s forced fumble was the key defensive play of the game. It came on a Rebel fake field goal attempt midway through the third quarter with Cowboys holding a 28-10 lead. As Rebel quarterback Caleb Herring made a sideline dash from 25 yards out, Huff knocked the ball from Herring’s hands at the one-yard line, sending it through the end zone for a Wyoming touchback. On UNLV's first possession of the fourth quarter, Huff made a key tackle on Rebel running back Tim Cornett for only a three-yard gain on a second and 10-yard play. That series would end with an incomplete pass on third down and a punt on fourth down.

This is the fifth career MW weekly accolade for Smith. Huff earned the distinction for the first time in his career.

Huff shared the Defensive Player of the Week honor with Albert Rosette, a Senior Linebacker from Nevada. Sophomore Kicker Colin Ditsworth from Nevada was honored as the MW Special Teams Player of the Week.
