LANDER, Wyo. — Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk is helping build a new skate park in Lander.

Hawk’s foundation is donating $10,000 to the project.

The donation brings the park’s funding so far to $120,000, nearly half of what’s needed. Backers hope to raise the rest and start building the park by the summer of 2013.

Regarded as one of the first stars of the sport, Tony Hawk is perhaps best known as being the first man to land a 900 (two and a half rotations in the air). He also gained fame through a series of video games in the 1990s and 2000s.
