Rockies Open Series in Philly Tonight
The Colorado Rockies (25-40) open a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies (31-37) tonight in Philly. The Rockies enter the series having lost 10 of their last 11, and the Phillies are coming off a series sweep by Toronto. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:05 MT at Citizens Bank Park (TV: Root Sports).
With the Phillies starting Cole Hamels, the Rockies will be sending Josh Outman to the mound. Outman, who was moved from the bullpen to the starting rotation when Jamie Moyer was cut at the end of May, enters the game 0-2 with an 8.44 ERA in 12 appearances (three starts). The southpaw worked a season-high five innings in his outing last Wednesday against the Athletics, but he also allowed five runs on six hits, including a pair of home runs.
Rockies slugger Carlos Gonzalez was scratched from Sunday’s loss in Detroit due to a strained right knee. The Rockies tweeted that an MRI revealed no structural damage in the knee. Gonzalez is being listed as day to day going forward. Gonzalez is currently on a seven-game hitting streak, during which he’s hitting .438. For the season, he’s hitting .335 with 17 homers and 51 RBIs.
The Phillies are 19-4 against the Rockies since the start of the 2008 season.
