CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service is putting more resources into fighting an estimated 3,500-acre wildfire burning in the Medicine Bow National Forest in southeast Wyoming.

The Forest Service is sending in more experienced fire managers and bringing in additional firefighting crews to help the 120 already on hand. Helicopters and air tankers are also being employed.

The fire spread in most directions overnight and jumped the Laramie River, which firefighters had hoped would be a natural containment line.

It is burning about 20 miles northwest of Wheatland and about 5 miles southeast of Laramie Peak in an area of rugged terrain mixed with ponderosa pine, brush and grass.

Elsewhere in Wyoming, crews are battling a new fire in Weston County in northeast Wyoming that has burned about 1,500 acres.
