Laramie Junior High School students will be among those representing Wyoming at the 2016 International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Ariz. in May.

Woodrow Gamboa and Qingfeng Li will have a chance to meet student scientists from around the world and could win prizes up to $75,000.

Gamboa and Li qualified at the Wyoming State Science Fair for the international competition. Gamboa competed in physics/astronomy/mathematical sciences in the first senior division, while Li competed in robotics/computer/mathematical sciences in the same division.

Jennel Mead of Cheyenne South High School and Darbi Schlenker of Meeteetse High School are eligible to join the Laramie students at the international competition.

Eight Wyoming students – including two from Laramie Junior High School — from the junior division were nominated to participate in the Broadcom Masters competition later this year. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. this fall.

Ahlena Islam and Arundathi Nair each won first place in the junior division at the Wyoming State Science Fair. They are eligible along with students from Pinedale, Wheatland, Meeteetse, Newcastle and Big Piney.

Over 100 judges and volunteers made the Wyoming State Science Fair possible at the University of Wyoming. Industry and UW departments joined in sponsoring special awards.

More information about the Wyoming State Science Fair is available by calling coordinator Erin Stoesz at 766-9863.
