The Laramie High School Plainsmen football team faces their longest road trip of the season Friday, as they head west to Evanston to take on the Red Devils.

Both teams are 1-2 on the season with very similar results. Both have beaten another team in the bottom six of Wyoming class 4A high school football. Their losses have been to teams in the top four. Both Laramie and Evanston have lost to #3 Sheridan. The Plainsmen have also dropped a game to second-ranked Natrona, while the Red Devils fell to top-ranked Gillette.

Laramie Plainsmen head coach Chuck Syverson discusses the long road trip and previews the opposition:

Evanston features a one-two punch in their backfield in seniors Hyrum Peterson and Will Kishpaugh. Peterson is leading class 4A in rushing at 131.3 yards per game and is averaging an impressive 6.1 yards per carry. Kishpaugh is the fullback and is ninth in 4A on the ground at 67.3 yards per game. He averages 9.6 yards per attempt.

The Red Devils 195 yards per game on the ground are fifth best in 4A. This means the Laramie rush defense, which is ranked ninth, is going to be tested. LHS is allowing 236 yards per game on the ground.

The Plainsmen have their own edge, as they are fifth in passing at 155.3 yards per game, while the Evanston pass defense gives up 230 yards per game, which is ninth in the class.

You may be wondering what the players perspective is. Senior Andy Pearson was also asked about the lengthy trip and what's coming from Evanston.

Laramie will try to spoil the Red Devils homecoming tonight in Evanston. The Plainsmen haven't won in E-town since 2001. In fact, Evanston has won eight of the last nine meetings in the series.

The game is slated for a 7 p.m. kick-off from Red Devil Stadium.
