In their final action before the holiday break, both LHS teams grabbed some momentum at tournaments in Green River and Greeley, Colorado.

The 5th-ranked Laramie Lady Plainsmen (6-1) cruised to a 3-0 record at the 16th annual Flaming Gorge Classic in Green River.  Laramie opened with a 65-43 victory over Rich County, Utah last Thursday.  The Lady Plainsmen hit six 3-pointers as they jumped to a 20-4 lead.  They knocked down eleven 3's in the game.  Kyleigh Hiser led the way with 15 points.  Ragen Wilson scored 12, while Kensie Harris added 11 points.  Friday, Laramie got 15 points from Shaley Anderson and 9 from Madison Legerski in a 55-28 win over Jackson.  The Lady Plainsmen completed the weekend with a 54-8 thumping of 2A Kemmerer Saturday.  Kyleigh Hiser led LHS with 19 points.  They surrendered only one point in the first half.

Meanwhile, the Laramie Plainsmen (3-4) went 2-1 and won the consolation championship at the Greeley Boys Basketball Invitational in Greeley, Colorado.  Last Thursday, with arguably the toughest opening draw of the tournament, the Plainsmen fell to the #2 Sterling Tigers (CO) 61-37.  Nick Mayes had 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead LHS.  Friday saw Laramie bounce back with a hard fought 48-47 victory over the Greeley West Spartans (CO).  The game featured 12 lead changes and 9 ties, with 10 lead changes  and 8 ties in the second half.  Tate Hilgenkamp hit two big 3's in the fourth quarter, while Mayes had the game-winning three-point play with 47 seconds left.  Hilgenkamp and Mayes each scored 13 points to lead LHS, while Mayes added 13 rebounds.  Saturday started poorly, but finished strong, as the Plainsmen beat the Sand Creek Scorpions (CO) 59-34.  Laramie trailed 12-0 early, but rallied with a 17-4 run and took the lead in the second quarter.  They out-scored Sand Creek 59-22 the rest of the game and held the Scorpions to single digits in points in each of the last three quarters.  Hilgenkamp led Laramie with a career-high 22 points.  Brady Wilkison also added a career high of 11 points.

Both Laramie High School basketball teams return to action at the East-West Classic in Riverton January 6, 7 and 8, 2011.

Next is actually a fun event with the Alumni Games on December 27, 2010 at LHS.  The four games on the schedule start at 1 pm.  Varsity girls is at 5 pm, while the varsity boys is at 7 pm.
