UNDATED (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw authored the second no-hitter of the baseball season, striking out a career-high 15 in the Dodgers' 8-0 victory over Colorado last night. Kershaw joins teammate Josh Beckett, who tossed a no-hitter on May 25 against Philadelphia, on the 2014 no-hit list.

The 15 strikeouts are the most by any left-hander in baseball history in a no-hitter. Right-hander Nolan Ryan struck out 17 while pitching for the California Angels in one of his no-hitters in 1973.

Kershaw was overpowering all night, allowing just one base runner to reach first base.

Kershaw, the NL's Cy Young award winner in 2011 and 2013, had a perfect game into the seventh inning. But a throwing error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez on a grounder by Corey Dickerson allowed the only Colorado batter to reach base. Kershaw had retired 18 straight before that play.

When he struck out Dickerson for the game's final out, Kershaw extended both his arms over his head in ecstasy at Dodger Stadium. He then was mobbed by his teammates as he improved to 7-2 this season.

It's the 22nd no-hitter in Dodgers franchise history --12 in Los Angeles and 10 in Brooklyn.

The only other time the Dodgers threw two no-hitters in one season was 1956, when the team was still in Brooklyn. Carl Erskine and Sal Maglie turned the trick that year.

In other major league play:

— Brian McCann hit a go-ahead, two-run homer and later added a bases-loaded triple to help the New York Yankees to a 7-3 win over the first-place Toronto Blue Jays. The Yanks moved within two and a-half games of the AL East-leading Jays. The Yankees beat Mark Buehrle (BUR'lee) for the ninth straight time and handed the Blue Jays their 15th loss in a row in the Bronx.

— Jeremy Guthrie took a shutout into the seventh inning as Kansas City extended its winning streak by beating Detroit 2-1. The Royals have won 10 in a row and have opened up a game-and-a-half lead over the Tigers for first in the AL Central. The Royals have not won this many games in a row since a run of 14 straight in 1994.

— Jose Abreu (uh-BRAY'-oo) hit a two-run homer in the first and Adam Dunn later added a three-run shot to lead the White Sox past San Francisco 7-6. The White Sox roughed up Major League ERA leader Tim Hudson for seven runs on 12 hits in 4 2/3 innings. Hudson entered the game with a 1.81 ERA. The NL West leading Giants have lost five in a row.

— Anthony Rendon's (rehn-DOHNZ') home run keyed a three-run seventh inning rally in the Washington Nationals' 6-5 win over Houston. The Nationals now own a one-and-a-half-game lead over the Braves and Marlins in the NL East.

— Ryan Howard capped a big series by driving in two runs with three hits and the Phillies battered Atlanta 10-5 to complete a three-game sweep. Howard it homers in each of the first two games. He had five hits, four walks and six RBIs in the series. Evan Gattis and Ryan Doumit homered for Atlanta, which has lost eight of 12.

— Jake Arrieta had a career-high 11 strikeouts in seven innings, to lead the Cubs to a 6-1 win over Miami. Arrieta improved to 3-1 and lowered his ERA to 1.98. He also doubled for his first career hit. Nate Schierholtz (SHEER'-hohltz) broke out of 3-for-26 slump with a three-run homer for the Cubs who won consecutive road series for the first time since June of last year.

— David Ortiz and Mike Napoli (NAP'-oh-lee) hit one-out, back-to-back homers in the bottom of the 10th to give Boston a 2-1 win over Minnesota. Casey Fien came on in relief in the bottom of the tenth after the Twins scored in the top of the inning on Chris Parmalee's fourth homer of the season.

— Sonny Gray worked seven solid innings, striking out seven, to lead Oakland over Texas 4-2. Brandon Moss hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the fifth inning. Gray had won just two of his previous eight starts and is now 7-3.

— Cincinnati routed Pittsburgh 11-4 behind a 14-hit attack. Alfredo Simon (SY'-mihn) became the NL's first 10-game winner. Billy Hamilton had three hits and three RBIs.

— Pinch-hitter Tommy Medica singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and the San Diego Padres beat the Seattle Mariners 2-1.

__ Arizona scored a run in the bottom of the ninth and edged NL Central-leading Milwaukee 4-3. Tony Campana delivered the game-winning RBI single.

— Bartolo Colon (bar-TOH'-loh koh-LOHN') gave up just four hits in eight innings to lead the Mets to a 3-2 win over St. Louis, ending the Cardinals five-game winning streak. Matt Carpenter tagged Colon for a first inning homer, but that was all he gave up in improving to 7-5. Eric Young drove in two runs for New York.

— Kevin Gausman combined with two relievers on a five-hitter as Baltimore blanked Tampa Bay 2-0. Gausman improved to 3-1 by surrendering five hits in six innings. The Orioles got an RBI double from Steve Pearce in the fifth and Nelson Cruz hit his major league leading 22nd home run of the season in the eighth.

— The L.A. Angels at Cleveland was rained out.
