News about colleges and universities committing NCAA infractions seems to be all over. Just about every day there's another story about a player receiving benefits, illegal recruiting or coaches being involved in extra practices. While most of us are left to speculate about what is actually going on in those situations, there are a couple of small volunteer committees who have to legitimately address those violations. Sportsline Live was lucky enough to have a former member of an infractions committee, Jerry Parkinson, on the show Thursday with David Settle and Jake Anfinson.

Parkinson is a Professor of Law at the University of Wyoming and volunteered as Coordinator of Appeals for the NCAA Division 1 Committee on Infractions from 2000 to 2010. During that time he handled 28 appeals, including 22 oral arguments, on behalf of the NCAA. Listen below to hear common misperceptions about the NCAA from where the committee puts their focus compared to how the media categorizes schools, whether certain schools are targeted and the difference between a major and secondary violation.
