GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — Gillette mayor Tom Murphy could be among those representing Wyoming at a coal conference in China in June.

The University of Wyoming’s School of Energy is helping sponsor the International Advanced Coal Technology Conference along with delegations from China and Australia.

The Gillette News Record (http://bit.ly/I434yk) reported that the Campbell Economic Development Corp. president and others urged city councilors to back sending Murphy to the conference during Monday night’s city council workshop.

State Rep. Tom Lubnau, of Campbell County, will be a presenter at the conference. Gov. Matt Mead also plans to attend along with leaders from the state Legislature and energy school representatives.

Lubnau said the trip is an opportunity to protect jobs and avoid being subject to “the political whims of the folks on our coasts.”
