The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be holding two public information gathering meetings next week to discuss herd management objectives for the Rochelle Hills Elk Herd. The Rochelle Hills Elk Herd includes Hunt Areas 113 and 123 which occupy areas of Converse, Weston, Niobrara and Campbell counties.

The meetings will be in Gillette and in Wright at 7 o'clock on the nights of June 6 and June 7. The Gillette meeting will be held first at the Campbell County Library while in Wright, Game and Fish officials will meet with the public at the Wright Town Hall.

WGFD Senior Wildlife Biologist Erika Peckham says the meetings will be a great “...opportunity for hunters and other interested individuals to provide comments and input on elk herd management in the Rochelle Hills for the next five years or until another herd unit management review is conducted.”

Across the state, elk management is a large area of focus and concern. In Laramie, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has an active presence, and will soon be celebrating their six millionth acre conserved.
