Once again the University of Wyoming Cowgirls Tennis Team came out on top, this time on a regional level! The doubles team of Veronica Popovici and Simona Synkova took the USTA/ITA Mountain Regional Doubles Title.

It was another exciting weekend for the Cowgirls as they went to Las Vegas to compete in the Mountain Regional Tournament. The outstanding news coming out of the weekend was the victory of doubles team Veronica Popovici and Simona Synkova. The two earned an 8-2 victory over Montana's doubles team of Lauren Pelchat and Heather Davidson.

Of course there were other great matches on the weekend but the victory for Popovic/Synkova means that they will now travel to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on November 3rd-6th. The Indoor facilities are located at the Internationally acclaimed USTA- Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

The Mountain Regional Tournament in Las Vegas saw over 120 collegiate tennis players competing for a chance to play at the Indoor Nationals in November. Throughout the nation there are 24 USTA/ITA Regional Champions for NCAA Division 1 men and women.Each and every match played was hard fought and the Cowgirls once again showed that they are a driving force in collegiate tennis.

The rest of the Cowgirls also had good performances at the tournament. On Friday the doubles team of Sasa Nemcova and Christa Gecheva lost a close fought battle 9-8 to Melissa Cecil and Tahlia Smoke of Air Force. In singles action Veronica Popovici lead the cowgirls as she made it to the semi-finals only to fall in straight sets to Aleksandra Josifoska of UNLV 6-1,6-4.

In consolation singles play Jessica Parizher handled her opponent Danielle Flores of Utah in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-4. Simona Synkova also competed in singles action and easily won her match against Carla Marzi Tenorio of CU 6-0 and 6-2. Alma Espinosa also played amazing for the Cowgirls as she went on to defeat her opponent 6-0, 6-2.

Next up for the Cowgirls is Utah Invitational on November 4th-6th. Until then the Cowgirls are continuing to improve their already impressive tennis skills. Adding to the excitement of Cowgirl Tennis this year is the new indoor tennis complex boasting 4 brand new courts, upper lever seating for fans along with top notch lighting.
