The Laramie Colts were back in action yesterday, winning one game against the Golden Grizz and getting rained out of the night cap against the Denver Sox.

Laramie got off to a hot start against the Grizz scoring two runs in the top of the first and another run in the top of the second. The Grizz then came back in the fifth inning, plating two runners and taking a 4-3 lead.

The Colts then had an offensive surge, scoring 6 times in the final two innings and ultimately winning the game 9-4. The Laramie offense was led by Tyler Bodenstab who gathered two hits during the course of the game and drove in four of Laramie’s nine runs.

Spencer Nielsen was the winning pitcher in the game against the Grizz. Nielsen came on in the fourth inning in relief of Evan Bryant, who was making his first start of the summer. Nielsen surrendered two runs to the Grizz on four hits. Nielsen also struck out one man and did not walk a single batter.

“Evan had almost 80 pitches through three innings so we decided to stop it there,” Colts Manager James Clark said. “Nielsen came in with guys on base and didn’t allow a run to score. He pitched very well and his changeup was working. The Grizz are a fastball hitting team and he was able to keep them off balance.”

After their victory against the Grizz, the Colts traveled 20 minutes down the road for a game against the Denver Sox. After getting out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the game was called due to adverse weather. A make-up date has not yet been scheduled.

Laramie will continue play this weekend when they host their first tournament of the year. Laramie will be playing four total games, two games will each be played on Friday and Sunday. The two games on Friday will be played against Impact Sports and Sunday’s games will be played against the Denver Sox.

Clark said the postponed game will only help his team since he will be able to save some pitching and throw guys sooner than he expected to be able too.

“We are stacked up pretty well for pitching this weekend,” Clark said, “hopefully we can just keep scoring runs.”
