Walking through Laramie this week it will feel still, quiet, and empty; this is largely due to the fact that many people are out of town for spring break. For some, this is a good thing, you can now appreciate the peace and quiet for a week. For others, this is sad for one of two reasons: 1- all the noisy people will be back in a week or 2- everyone is away at some glorious spring break destination, and you are stuck here in Laramie. If the second option applies to you, cheer up, it just so happens that I believe the best time to plan a spring break, is while everyone is gone at spring break- who cares if the next spring break is a full year away, that just gives you more time to prepare to go to one of these great spring break locations!

    Arizona/Florida

Call me crazy (or don't) but when I think spring, I think baseball. One of the good things about spring break is that it tends to occur while major league baseball teams are practicing for the season in Arizona and Florida with the Cactus League and Grapefruit League respectively. With sunny skies, temperatures vastly out-doing Laramie's this time of year, and our nation's pastime, it seems an easy choice to go where the baseball is.

    Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a tropical island, and has a great distinction of being under American rule, thus, you do not need a passport to travel there. It can easily be visited by cruise-ship or plane and is a popular spot for young and old alike to soak in some sun and have a good time doing so. It should at this time be reiterated that Puerto rico is a tropical island. Enough said.

    Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta is a Pacific coast resort town in Mexico that features calm beaches and a lively nightlife. Mexico is commonly greeted with great skepticism due to the current conflicts with the drug cartels, but there's little reason to worry as most drug-related conflicts happen in the northern part of Mexico. If you go to Puerto Vallarta, the only things you'll have to worry about will be having enough sunscreen and enough to drink.

    Cancun

Cancun is a resort town- a year round destination for tourists from across the globe. During spring break, it is one of the hottest destinations for college-aged vacationers as the beaches, parties, and popularity are legendary. You will find few locations throughout the world with equal luxury, tranquility and beaches.

    Las Vegas

Las Vegas is in a desert, so there are no beaches, but there are a number of casino resorts, many of them boasting huge pools that give you the beach feel. The temperature in March and April is just about perfect in Vegas, settling nicely in the 70s-80s range. There are shows and activities for children or families, and there are parties and nightlife for those older vacationers. What sets Vegas apart as a spring break destination in my book however, is that the week of spring break very regularly falls on the first week of March Madness, the first round of the NCAA Basketball National Tournament. Being in a place with warm temperatures, luxury resorts is one thing, but for those resorts to allow gambling during one of the best times of the year to bet on sports is beyond awesome. Not to mention, there are plenty of flying deals to Vegas throughout the year. Next spring, go to Vegas.
