When Mike Massie lost the 2010 race for State Superintendent Of Public Instruction, he retired from politics. Or so he thought. The longtime Laramie resident recently found out he is now on the ballot for an election he doesn't want to win.

The Wyoming State Canvassing Board added Massie to this year's Superintendent race this week after he received enough write-in votes to qualify for the general election. According to Massie, the write-in campaign was news to him.

The former State Senator told the Wyoming Tribune that he "shocked" to be named a candidate and said he has no intentions to pursue the office. Like it or not, Massie's name will be on the ballot in November next to incumbent Jillian Balow.

It may be the first time in Wyoming history that a politician has asked the public not to vote for him.
