Since Matt Mead took the position of Wyoming's Governor he has done an excellent job at bringing more energy resources into the state. Wyoming is one of the top states in producing coal, natural gas, wind, and a number of other natural resources. Wind power is becoming a more viable source of energy and Wyoming has seen a rise in the production of wind farms. Sweetwater County is the newest location for a proposed 72-turbine wind farm.

The proposed 72-turbine wind farm in Sweetwater County would be located on the south side of Aspen Mountain and is sponsored by enXco. The proposed wind farm would generate approximately 250 megawatts of electricity.

The proposal has generated much debate over wildlife habitat, hunting areas, and the intrusion of scenic vistas for the Rock Springs and Green River areas. However, the Rock Springs Rocket Miner reports that project proponents say the wind farm would not be visible from Rock Springs or Green River.

As of now an environmental impact statement is being drafted which will give the county an opportunity to voice their input on the proposal as well as provide studies on wildlife, cultural and recreational impacts.
