For the second time within a week, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says a patrol car has been struck while parked at a roadside.  While a lucky Trooper was able to escape unharmed last week, yesterday a Trooper was not as fortunate.

Troopers were investigating multiple vehicle slide-off and crashes near the Summit on Interstate 80 east of Laramie when a pickup lost control and struck a patrol car parked in the median according to the WHP. A Trooper was seated in his car with emergency lights on when the pickup ran into him.

Both the driver of the pickup and the Trooper received minor injuries. They were treated and released from Ivinson Memorial Hospital.

Authorities report that the variable speed limit had been reduced to 55 mph at the time of the accident. The WHP is urging drivers to be patient, courteous and pay attention to their surroundings, especially when approaching stopped emergency vehicles. Troopers across Wyoming have reported numerous near misses recently while they have been stopped at the roadside.

The crash is still under investigation and they are still determining if the patrol car is a total loss.
