CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Three people are in the hospital in Cheyenne following a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 25.

The crash happened Wednesday at around 8:30 a.m. just north of the Wyoming-Colorado border. It shut the southbound side of the highway down for about an hour.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol said that the chain reaction started when 18-year-old Antonio Martinez slowed down in the left lane to make a U-turn on a paved crossover and was rear-ended by a GMC Jimmy driven by 35-year-old Luke Melchior of Cheyenne. The GMC Jimmy then drifted into the right lane, collided with a truck and then ended up back in the left lane.

Melchior was seriously injured and his passenger suffered minor injuries. It’s not clear yet how Martinez, the driver of the pickup, is doing.
