West Nile Virus

Summer is upon us, and the Wyoming Department of Health is urging residents to take steps to avoid mosquito and tick bites as well as waterborne diseases.

Applications will begin today, June 6, in areas adjacent to city limits. Residential fogging will begin Sunday evening, June 9, weather permitting.

City of Laramie Mosquito Control has scheduled the aerial application of Bacillus thuringensis israelensis (Bti) for Saturday, June 1.

Kohr says the horses presented with neurological symptoms, such as being wobbly on their feet.

Most people infected with the virus either don't have symptoms or have minor ones, such as fever, headache, body aches, skin rash and swollen lymph nodes.

The City of Laramie will begin mosquito fogging in residential areas beginning in the evening on Monday, June 4.

Parks and Recreation Director Todd Feezer said despite the city finding the two samples of West Nile, the risk of West Nile virus infection is still quite low.

Horses, humans and certain species of birds are the most susceptible to West Nile.
